Christ’s body Altenstadt-Romanesque style

This replica of the Great God of Altenstadt is based on a monumental Romanesque Corpus from the early 13th century. The original, over 3 meters tall, has inspired generations of believers with its superhuman presence – a quality that gave the figure its popular name.

Carved from maple wood, the work preserves the powerful formal language and spiritual expressiveness of the original. Instead of the crown of thorns, Christ wears a golden band as a sign of royal and priestly dignity. This symbolic representation reflects deep theology and artistic mastery. Stylistic influences from Italian Romanesque art – especially from Arezzo in Tuscany – are also apparent.

Crafted by Franco, this work combines historical heritage with the finest woodcarving craftsmanship. It is suitable for sacred spaces or for those seeking a particularly expressive and tradition-rich figure of Christ.
